Since 1972, when the city of New York was awarded a second hockey team, fans have purchased Islanders hockey tickets for the opportunity to see their team live and cheer them on to victory. Those who have held Islanders tickets over the years have seen their team, and individuals on the team as well, experience great success. As if it is not a great enough feat to win four Stanley Cup Championships in a franchises entire history, the Islanders made that feat seem more ordinary during the early 1980s. During the span from 1980 through 1983, the New York Islanders thrilled fans with Islanders tickets by winning the Stanley Cup in every one of these seasons, resulting in four consecutive Stanley Cup victories. The Islanders attempted to make it five straight titles, as the team advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1984. However, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Islanders in the series, disappointing fans and ending the Islanders dynasty. During these years and all throughout the teams history, holders of Islanders hockey tickets have seen some individual players produce something a little bit extra and receive league recognition for it. In franchise history, fans with New York Islanders tickets have seen four Calder Trophy winners, one Selke winner, and one Norris Trophy winner, although he (Denis Potvin) won the award three times. Furthermore, the two most prestigious individual awards in hockey have come to New York as well. Fans have seen one Hart Trophy winner, Bryan Trottier in 1979, and one Jack Adams Award winner, Coach Al Arbour, also in 1979. Since the first Islanders game ever in 1972, fans with Islanders tickets have come to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to watch the game and cheer their team to victory. The Coliseum was built in 1972 on land that was previously an Army/Air Force base until 1960. After recent renovations, the arena was expanded to allow up to 16,300 holders of Islanders tickets to see every home game that the Islanders play. The New York Islanders have a successful and exciting team. Last year, however, they finished at a dissapointing 36-40-6 record during the regular season and failed to make the playoffs. Islanders fans are loyal however, and these hockey tickets are going fast. It's never too early to purchase Islanders tickets for the 2007 season.
