The story of the Detroit Red Wings begins in 1926, when the Detroit Cougars first entered the NHL. The team played as the Cougars for nearly twenty seasons before changing their name to the Red Wings. Now, the name has remained the same for more than fifty years, and Red Wings tickets are among the hottest tickets in all of hockey. Perhaps this is due to the unparalleled success that the team and holders of Detroit Red Wings tickets have experienced throughout the franchises history. Since 1936, only ten years after the team first came into the league, the Red Wings won the first of their ten Stanley Cup Titles in front of fans with Red Wings tickets. On three separate occasions, holders of Red Wings hockey tickets have see the team win back to back titles, coming in 1936 and 1937, 1954 and 1955, and, most recently, in 1997 and 1998. Besides seeing numerous Stanley Cup victories, holders of Red Wings tickets have seen Red Wings players etch their names in history with outstanding individual performances. Such performances include Gordie Howe becoming the leagues all time leading scorer in 1963 and Alex Delvecchio becoming only the third player in league history to reach the milestone of 1,000 career points in 1969. Holders of Red Wings hockey tickets often see the act of throwing an octopus on the ice prior to Red Wings games, a tradition that is more than fifty years old. As the Red Wings embarked on their 1952 playoff run, two brothers with Red Wings tickets threw an octopus out onto the ice before the first playoff game. The eight tentacles represented the eight wins that were necessary (at that time in the games history) in order to win the Stanley Cup. That season, holders of Red Wings hockey tickets saw their team sweep through the playoffs, culminating in a Stanley Cup victory. Ever since then, the octopus has been seen as a symbol of good luck by fans with Detroit Red Wings tickets. It's never too early to purchase Red Wings tickets for the 2007 season.
