The story of how Kansas City Chiefs tickets became a sales item starts in 1958 with Lamar Hunt in Dallas, Texas. It seems Hunt wanted an NFL franchise for Dallas and the NFL ignored him. With a second NFL rebuff in 1959 Hunt spawned the idea of a second football league. By 1960 Hunt found himself president of the American Football League (AFL). With the NFL's award of a franchise to another Dallas group, Hunt announced movement of his team to Kansas City in 1963. Kansas City lured Hunt by guaranteeing him sales of Chiefs football tickets, with the mayor of Kansas City promising addition of 3,000 permanent and 11,000 temporary seats for holders of Chiefs tickets. Fans only purchased 5,721 Kansas City Chiefs tickets for opening day; those tickets sold for $6 and $7. Holders of Chiefs football tickets got their money's worth, seeing future Hall of Fame players DT Buck Buchanan and LB Bobby Bell in Chiefs uniforms. In 1964 fans purchased an average of just over 18,000 Chiefs tickets per game with the Chiefs setting a 7-7 win loss record. Due to dismal sales of Kansas City Chiefs tickets, Hunt wondered about the potential of the Kansas City market. By 1966 purchasers of Chiefs football tickets saw their team win the AFL West title. What a delight for holders of Chiefs tickets when their team played in the 1967 AFL-NFL World Championship Game, later renamed Super Bowl I. Hunt helped the media coin the Super Bowl name though it would be two more years before official adoption of the name by the NFL. Fast forwarding to 1972, the Chiefs moved to Arrowhead Stadium where fans holding Kansas City Chiefs tickets see home games. The stadium currently offers seating to 70,000 fans with Chiefs football tickets. Several updates over the years offer holders of Chiefs tickets all the amenities of stadiums built later, including the fan favorite, the JumboTron. Arrowhead Stadium consistently sells out of Kansas City Chiefs tickets, so purchase your Chiefs tickets early. While the K.C. Chiefs were eliminated in the first round of the 2007 playoffs, it's never too early to buy Kansas City Chiefs tickets for next season.
