Since the first sale of West Virginia Mountaineers football tickets, fans have seen their team experience good success. In 1988, and then again in 1993, fans with West Virginia football tickets saw the Mountaineers win a school-record eleven games. Both of those years, and in twenty-two different years, fans have been able to purchase West Virginia football tickets for bowl games. Also, fans with West Virginia Mountaineer football tickets have become accustomed to the “Backyard Brawl” game with the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. The sale of these West Virginia tickets has been going on for nearly one hundred consecutive years, making it one of the top twenty oldest rivalries in Division-I college football to date. On Saturdays during the college football season, fans with West Virginia football tickets flock to Mountaineer Field to cheer on their West Virginia Mountaineers. Since the stadium opened in 1980, fans with West Virginia tickets have grown used to victories, as the Mountaineers have accumulated a winning percentage of near seventy. The stadium holds a capacity of around 60,000 fans with West Virginia football tickets, but that capacity has been exceeded on several occasions. On November 20, 1993, 70,222 fans with West Virginia Mountaineers football tickets traveled to Mountaineer Field to watch the game between their Mountaineers and the University of Miami Hurricanes. Fans that purchase West Virginia football tickets and attend games at Mountaineer Field are used to season a sea of gold and blue, the team’s school colors dating all the way back to 1890. The Pride of West Virginia Marching Band leads fans with West Virginia football tickets in such traditional songs as “Hail West Virginia!” and John Denver’s “Country Roads,” which was sang in front of fans with West Virginia Mountaineer football tickets for the first time in 1980 at the dedication of Mountaineer Field.
