Since its founding in 1869, Purdue University had been known for educating the sons and daughters of the working class. The school used this as a base for choosing its football nickname: the Boilermakers. Since that time, the team has joined the Big 10 Conference and become a team full of traditions that help fans with Purdue football tickets cheer their Boilermakers to victory. Just before every game since 1966, fans with Purdue Boilermaker football tickets watch an American flag raising ritual on the field as the poem I Am An American is read over the P.A. system at Ross-Ade Stadium. Once the game begins, fans with Purdue tickets sing fight songs like Hail Purdue. Holders of Purdue football tickets get some help cheering on the team from the team mascots. The Boilermaker Special, a replica of a Victorian-era locomotive, has been a symbol of the Boilermakers in the eyes of holders of Purdue football tickets everywhere. Debuting in 1940, the Boilermaker Special delights fans with Purdue Boilermakers football tickets at every home game, and even some select road games. In 2001, fans that purchased Purdue football tickets to the Rose Bowl saw the Boilermaker Special appear in Pasadena. When the Boilermaker Special is unable to travel to a game, fans with Purdue Boilermakers football tickets look to Purdue Pete. Beginning as an advertising icon in 1940 for the University Bookstore, Purdue Pete has become a staple of Boilermaker football and now has a special spot in the hearts of all Boilermaker fans with Purdue tickets. Since 1924, the home of Purdue football and all the fans with Purdue football tickets has been Ross-Ade Stadium. Located on the Purdue campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, the stadium has undergone a huge renovation to better accommodate fans with Purdue Boilermaker football tickets. The renovation, which began in 2001 and ended in 2003, cost $70 million and actually decreased the capacity of the stadium. Providing more spacious area and wider seats for all fans with Purdue football tickets, Ross-Ade Stadium now holds 62,500 fans with Purdue tickets as opposed to the 69,000 fans with Purdue Boilermakers football tickets that the stadium held in up until 2001.
