Although fans with Stanford Cardinals basketball tickets were obviously thrilled with the team’s NCAA Title in 1942, many were disappointed in following years, as the team failed to even qualify for the tournament again until 1988. In 1990, holders of Stanford tickets watched their team write its name in the history books as only the 14th school in college basketball history to win an NCAA Title and an NIT Title. While holders of Stanford basketball tickets did see a steady decline in team success following the 1942 championship season, they would begin to see rapid improvement beginning in 1996. For the first time in school history, holders of Stanford Cardinals basketball tickets watched their team advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament in 1996. Furthermore, this would begin a successful run in the NCAA Tournament, which would include a first ever Final Four appearance in 1998. In both of these successful seasons, Trent Johnson sat on the bench as an assistant to then Head Coach Mike Montgomery. Now, after a brief stint as the head coach of Nevada, fans with Stanford tickets were happy to welcome Trent Johnson back to the team, this time as the head coach. In 2004, when he took control of the team, Johnson found himself at the front of a team that had qualified for ten consecutive NCAA Tournaments, as well as in front of holders of Stanford basketball tickets who were looking to Johnson to lead the team back to the NCAA Finals. Since 1969, the Maples Pavilion has been the home of the Stanford Cardinals and their fans with Stanford basketball tickets. In an effort to make the experience of each game even more enjoyable for the nearly 8,000 fans that purchase Stanford Cardinals basketball tickets, the Pavilion underwent a $26 million renovation that completed in 2004. A tradition of the Maples Pavilion since it opened has been the Sixth Man Club. This group of students that purchase Stanford basketball tickets and sit in the middle seats of the Maples Pavilion has exploded in popularity, blossoming from its 30 original members to its more than 1,000 current members.
