The Police Ticket Agency

The Beginning:  Founded in 1977, Police Tickets were first on the market soon after with the release of the single “Fall Out”/”Nothing Achieving.”  In the beginning, The Police were a threesome made up of the American born Stewart Copeland, Henry Padovani, and of course, Sting.  Soon after a few projects and tours, The Police added talented guitarist Andy Summers to take over for Padovani making the famous trio solidified.  From then on, buying tickets to The Police meant seeing a mixed trio of an American born drummer, a hugely talented songwriter, and a veteran guitarist.

The Talent:  The Police’s widely popular frontman Sting was noted early on as being an incredible songwriter.  Before joining the band, Sting was a high school English teacher, making his ability to write powerful and meaningful lyrics one of a kind.  In fact, many of The Police’s early albums were inspired by infamous writings of Arthur Koestler and Carl Jung.

Innovation and Struggle:  During the late 70s, the Reggae genre of music was largely isolated to Rastafarian icons such as Bob Marley.  However, The Police, at least in the United States, became one the first white bands to use the Reggae style of music.  (The Clash is also known as early innovators when it came to experimenting with Ska and Reggae in rock music, although Reggae was a much bigger and popular genre in the U.K. during this era.)   It was during this time also that The Police acquired their signature bleach blonde hair in a strange incident.  At this time, The Police had not yet been signed by a label and the band was hurting for money.  They scored a commercial with Wrigley’s Spearmint chewing gum and were only allowed to be in the commercial if they dyed their hair blonde.  The look stuck and remained throughout their career.

Success:  The first album Outlandos d’Amour saw little success and led to a subsequent grind of a tour in which the band drove themselves around the country in a van packed with equipment.  However, Copeland’s brother (Miles Copeland III founded I.R.S. Records), being a top music executive, immediately got the band a contract with A&M upon hearing “Roxanne” for the first time.   They released the single and gained widespread success in the U.K. and Australia especially.  The next full length album The Police released became a major success including “Message in A Bottle” hitting #1.  1980 marked The Police’s first world tour and increased their popularity exponentially with each country they visited.  The early 80s saw Sting gaining huge success in his own right as a pop culture icon and actor.  The increasing popularity of the band’s frontman began causing tension within the ranks.  After the 1981 Ghost in the Machine, The Police released Synchronicity featuring the hugely popular “Every Breath You Take” which took home a Grammy for 1983 Song of the Year.

Break-up and Reunion:  Following the Synchronicity tour of 1984 each band member simply went their own way.  Sting had a hugely successful solo career and small time acting stint, Summers did some small time musical directing, and Stewart Copeland made documentary of the band from some footage he took while on tour.  The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was named #70 on Rolling Stones’ Top 100 Artists of All Time.  Finally in 2007, the Police released a statement announcing a reunion tour for their 30th anniversary.  MTC Tickets has all of the best seats for The Police’s reunion tour.  Don’t miss out on one of music’s all time greats –buy The Police Tickets from MTC Tickets, your customer first broker.
