Richard Melville Hall received the nickname Moby at birth because his ancestor Herman Melville was the author of Moby Dick. His music career started in 1975 when he began learning the guitar. Finally in 1989 with a record contract he released the single Time’s Up under the name of Brotherhood. Moby estimates that eight copies were sold.
